On the night of the 5 to 6 June 1944, the 101nd and 82nd Airborne Divisions were parachuted into two main sectors; the beach exits of Utah Beach for the 101st and that of Sainte-Mère Eglise, a village with several important crossroads for the Germans, for the 82nd. The Americans will drop 13,000 men.

In the British sector, the 6th Div. Airborne, 5000 men, is assigned objectives such as Pegasus Bridge, Ranville, Merville-Franceville, sectors where the fightings will be incredibly intense with many human losses.
